Web Design Phase definition
Graphic design
During web design phase we select the images following the guidelines
of the concept phase. We resize them to fit the space of the
design which is developed synchronically, prepare them with
filters if the design requires it, sharpen them and optimize
them for the internet.
3 designs varying in set up, but based on the defined color
scheme of the concept phase, are worked out to represent as
best as possible our clients firm. The client can take parts
of those 3 designs and put them together to one, creating this
way a 4th design or choose 1 of the presentations. Also can
suggest changes but needs to be aware that his/her own personal
taste has to give way to the taste of the target group, because
they will make the site fail or succeed.
This
all assumes that a house style is present if this is not the
case we will have to create in this phase the house style and
its elements.
It should be logical that the
website cannot be red and blue and the stationery yellow and
green or one logo is used on the website and another
logo on the stationery. This is not a way to build up public
awareness of your firm. Consistency only takes care that the
public recognizes and remembers your company.
Coding standards
Programmers define the coding standards
and propose the programming/scripting languages used to achieve
that the functionality of the web site works flawless.
If the decision is made to use a content management system, Visual
Orange has to check, which additional modules will have to be
added and custom built, to comply to the demands of the client
and the needs of the users.
The necessary connections of the Graphical User Interface of
the web site to the back end systems, such as
the database to store user profiles or products of a shopping
cart will be analyzed and resolved.
Which payment gateway will be used is decided in the design
phase. As you can see now, many technical solutions are checked
and decided in the web design phase and those technical aspects
are actually carrying the site. You can have a great looking site
but when it turns into a source of frustration for you and the
users then it's a flop.
The navigation
The navigation is definitely set. Titles
and file names of the pages are documented. A tree of all pages
is built and the links from all pages to other pages are specified.
This is also the reason why the content should be delivered
at this point to make sure all pages are present and no file
name or link is missing.
Importance of web design phase
The design phase is crucial for a successful completion of an
internet project. It is the time of decision-making. Decisions
made during this phase and later changed, can cause the project
to be delayed or the budget to be insufficient.
Risks
All technical risks have to be identified and eliminated in this
phase. Testing the elements and making sure they work together
in harmony, is absolutely necessary.
Security
Security issues have to be addressed and solutions are proposed
to the client.
